UNLEASHED – Living The Spirit-Filled Life (Part 1)

John 14:12 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.

“It would seem that Our Lord finds our desires, not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.” – C. S. Lewis, The Weight of Glory

Though God in the Flesh, everything Jesus did was done as a man empowered by the HOLY SPIRIT.

Matthew 3:16-17 16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. 17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”

Luke 4:14 Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside.

Jesus promised the Holy Spirit to believers and taught He was the SOURCE of power, provision, wisdom, transformation, and life. (Zechariah 4:6; Luke 3:16; 24:49; John 14:15-18, 25-27; 16:7-15; Acts 1:1-8; Romans 8:9-16; Galatians 5:16-25; Ephesians 1:13-14; 3:14-19; 4:30; 5:15-20)

There is a two-fold experience with the Holy Spirit for the Christian: 1) The TRANSFORMING infilling/deposit/sealing for the day of salvation (Ephesians 1:13-14; 4:30; Galatians 5:16-25; Titus 3:4-6) and 2) the EMPOWERING baptism/clothing/coming on or upon. (Luke 3:16; 24:49; Acts 1:1-8)

The baptism of the Holy Spirit was so essential that in spite of them believing in Jesus, the early church sent Peter and John to make sure the new believers in Samaria RECEIVED it (Acts 8:14-17).

And the Apostle Paul CHALLENGED the profession of supposed disciples in Ephesus by asking if they received the Holy Spirit when they believed. (Acts 19:1-2)

As Christians we are to walk in RELATIONSHIP with God the Holy Spirit (John 14:15-18, 25-27; 16:7-15; Romans 8:9-16; 2Corinthians 13:14; Ephesians 4:30)

MATURING will always challenge our comfort, ignorance, and prejudice.

Mark 12:24, 27b 24 Jesus replied, “Are you not in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God? 27 …You are badly mistaken!”

Just the Word, you DRY up. Just the Spirit, you BLOW up. The Word and the Spirit, you GROW up.

The great ERRORS in life, come from ignorance, prejudice, and pride (selfish ambition).
