Modern Family Part 1

Matthew 19:4-6 4 “Haven’t you read the Scriptures?” Jesus replied. “They record that from the beginning ‘God made them male and female.’” 5 And he said, “‘This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.’ 6 Since they are no longer two but one, let no one split apart what God has joined together.”

Malachi 2:15 Didn’t the Lord make you one with your wife? In body and spirit you are his. And what does he want? Godly children from your union. So guard your heart; remain loyal to the wife of your youth.

  1. Marriage and family are God’s ORIGINAL design. (Genesis 1:28; Genesis 2:18-25)

  2. It takes a mom and a dad to MAKE a child and it was expected that mom and dad would RAISE the child in a God honoring way. (John 1:13; Proverbs 22:6)

  3. This should be OUR target and the target we aim our CHILDREN at.

The “Split” of husband and wife is literally a TEARING or RIPPING apart that INJURES. (Malachi 2:16; Matthew 5:31-32; Matthew 19:1-6; Mark 10:11; Luke 16:18)

Both Scripture and statistics prove that blended families are DIFFICULT and do not have a high track record of success.

While this was the ideal (God’s design) it is not our REALITY.

Single Parents:

it’s no longer about just YOU.

you are a PARENT not a friend of your child.

You are the AUTHORITY of your home.

They are not just dating/marrying you; You are a PACKAGE deal.

You have a responsibility to PARENT and PROTECT your child(ren).

You are not just dating a potential SPOUSE, but a potential PARENT.

We must be prayerful, intentional, and careful to implement a FILTER and use it to identify those who do not qualify as a proper parental figure for your child. (Galatians 5:22-23; 1Corinthians 13:4-8a)

Clearly define what are the NON-negotiables in a future spouse and parent to your child?

It is with the Lord and doing things His way that we BEAT the statistics and find SUCCESS.

Joshua 24:15 …But as for me and my household, we will serve The Lord.

(Philippians 4:13; Hebrews 13:5; Psalm 68:4-6)
