Dirty Jesus Part 3

John 1:14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Philippians 2:5-8 5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!

Social OUTCAST someone who is rejected or ‘cast out’, as from home or society, or in some way excluded (rejected or ostracized), looked down upon, or ignored.

Matthew 8:1-4  When Jesus came down from the mountainside, large crowds followed him. 2 A man with leprosy came and knelt before him and said, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.”

3 Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” Immediately he was cleansed of his leprosy. 4 Then Jesus said to him, “See that you don’t tell anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.”

Jesus the holy man TOUCHED the unclean leper and made him clean.

Mark 5:24-34  24 So Jesus went with him. A large crowd followed and pressed around him. 25 And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. 26 She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. 27 When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, 28 because she thought, “If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.” 29 Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering.

30 At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who touched my clothes?”

31 “You see the people crowding against you,” his disciples answered, “and yet you can ask, ‘Who touched me?’ ”

32 But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. 33 Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth. 34 He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.”

Jesus the holy man was TOUCHED by the unclean woman and made her whole.

In the old covenant, holy/clean things became UNCLEAN if they touched an unclean thing.

Leviticus 15:27 Anyone who touches them will be unclean;

The leper and the bleeder were unclean OUTCASTS of society.

They were the UNTOUCHABLES, because no one wanted to be made dirty by them.

Here the Holy didn’t become unclean from the unclean, but instead made the unclean CLEAN by touching the holy.
We are to be in this dirty world, ENGAGING it, but not to become unclean, but to make clean what is dirty.
