Men of Steel Part 5

July 2, 2013 in Sermon Notes, Uncategorized, Video

 Men Of Steel Part 5

S – SUBMITTEDMen of Steel know there is a God and they are not Him. They know they were created to be MEN and that manhood done God’s way is the only way to be all they were created to be as men.

They are submitted to the RULE of Jesus. In submitting to the rule of God they become the leaders they were created to be.

T – TREASURE Men of Steel treasure/VALUE things rightly. They use God’s standard to tell the difference between treasure and trash and like Steel they do not bend to the whims of popular opinion.

They allow God’s value system to guide them in how they engage all aspects of life (Faith, Family, Friendships, Fun, Finances, and Fitness).

E – EVALUATE and IMPROVEMen of Steel are never complacent but are always examining themselves to see how they can improve, go higher, and be MORE.

They assess their life in comparison to God’s standard, not other people, and they act to to improve. They do not make excuses, they take responsibility.  They do not settle for the easy, they assess and strive for the best.

E – END and EQUIPMen of Steel are not SELF-centered. They are givers not takers, producers not consumers, and they realize they exist not for themselves, but to help and bless others.

They die to the SMALL life of self-centeredness and live the big life of the transcendent cause. They are willing to sacrifice the fleeting joys in order to make sure good comes to those around him.

L – LIVE It! Men of Steel know that the only truth that has value is APPLIED truth. They know life is something you LIVE not just talk about. Knowing and talking are not enough. You must DO it.

James 1:22-25 22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror

24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.

Living it out turns knowing into DOING. Living it is the hard part, but is where the BLESSING is experienced.

LIVE It” is about engaging, execution, and putting into practice the first four attributes. The first four serve as your instruction… the last one is the APPLICATION of them all.

James 2:14-17 14 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? 15 Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food.

16 If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? 17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

AUTHORITY hinges on a man’s obedience/submission to God.

Taking dominion starts with taking dominion over SELF… submitting your spirit to Christ, submitting your mind (intellect, emotions) and  body (appetites/desires) to your SPIRIT.

Luke 6:46-49 46 “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? 47 As for everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice, I will show you what they are like. 48 They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. 49 But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.”

Be active, lead by EXAMPLE, take the initiative, and be a servant leader.

It is a man’s job to INTERFERE with self-destructive patterns and lead by providing healthy, life-giving alternatives. Confront issues!

Living out manhood is an adventure! It consists of the UNKNOWN and DIFFICULTY

ENGAGE your God, Wife, Children, Friends, Health, Emotions, Finances, and Work!

“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” – Edmund Burke

2Corinthians 3:3 You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.

Men of steel are FIRM in their conviction to truth and do not bend to popular opinions or pleasures.

You seek the heights of manhood when you seek the depths of God.” – Edwin Louis Cole

Men of S.T.E.E.L. do HARD things; they do not AVOID the difficulties that come by living right.

“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.

“Why be comfortable with ‘good enough’, when we were made for so much more?” – Chuck Holton, MAKING MEN

Men of S.T.E.E.L. know that LOVE is a decision that is demonstrated by ACTION toward what is best for another, not just words or ideas or feelings.

Application: LIVE the heroes life of a man of S.T.E.E.L. and TEACH manhood to those around you.

The End Of The World As We Know It – Part 3

The time period of the greatest pain, the time when the baby is being born, is a 7year period called the TRIBULATION. At this time the Anti-Christ establishes a 7year peace agreement. The first 3.5years the Anti-Christ establishes peace and prosperity throughout the world encouraging UNITY and tolerance and that all faiths are good. The last 3.5years he will turn and declare himself God, require worship and taking his MARK to buy and sell, and will heavily persecute Christians. Then Jesus returns. (Ref. Daniel 9, 11, 12; Matthew 24; Mark 13; Luke 17; Revelation 5-20)

RAPTURE is a Middle French Word meaning seizure, kidnapping, or carry off.  It is a translation of the Greek word Arpazo – to be caught up or taken away with the connotation that it is a sudden event.

1Corinthians 15:51-53 51 Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— 52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53 For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality.

1Thessalonians 4:13-17 13 Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. 14 We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.15 According to the Lord’s own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.

1Thessalonians 5:1-9 Now, brothers, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. While people are saying, “Peace and safety,” destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.

But you, brothers, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. You are all sons of the light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be alert and self-controlled. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.

There is clearly a “catching away” of the Christians and a transformation of their physical body to a heavenly body, but the TIMING is debated. Some believe the rapture happens before the Tribulation, others believe it’s in the middle, and others believe it’s at the END.

No matter when it happens we see 3 things:

  1. We see there is a “RAPTURE”/ “Catching Away”
  2. We see it is not the END.
  3. We see CHRISTIANS go through the Tribulation.

Revelation 7:9, 13-14 After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. 13 Then one of the elders asked me, “These in white robes—who are they, and where did they come from?”

14 I answered, “Sir, you know.”

And he said, “These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

Revelation 7:4 Then I heard the number of those who were sealed: 144,000 from all the tribes of Israel.

During the great tribulation there will be 144,000 ISREALITES that turn to Jesus.

The return of Jesus is not the end of the world, but rather an OVERTHROW of satan’s rule on this earth.

2Thessalonians 2:1-12 Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to him, we ask you, brothers, not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by some prophecy, report or letter supposed to have come from us, saying that the day of the Lord has already come. Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction. He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God.

Don’t you remember that when I was with you I used to tell you these things? And now you know what is holding him back, so that he may be revealed at the proper time. For the secret power of lawlessness is already at work; but the one who now holds it back will continue to do so till he is taken out of the way. And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will overthrow with the breath of his mouth and destroy by the splendor of his coming. The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders, 10 and in every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.

Matthew 24:15-34 15 “So when you see standing in the holy place ‘the abomination that causes desolation,’ spoken of through the prophet Daniel—let the reader understand— 16 then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 17 Let no one on the roof of his house go down to take anything out of the house. 18 Let no one in the field go back to get his cloak. 19 How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! 20 Pray that your flight will not take place in winter or on the Sabbath. 21 For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again. 22 If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened. 23 At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or, ‘There he is!’ do not believe it. 24 For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect—if that were possible. 25 See, I have told you ahead of time.

26 “So if anyone tells you, ‘There he is, out in the desert,’ do not go out; or, ‘Here he is, in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. 27 For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 28 Wherever there is a carcass, there the vultures will gather.

29 “Immediately after the distress of those days “‘the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’

30 “At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory. 31 And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.

32 “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near.33 Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door. 34 I tell you the truth, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened

Revelation 19:11-21 11 I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and makes war. 12 His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. 13 He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. 14 The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. 15 Out of his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. “He will rule them with an iron scepter.” He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. 16 On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written:

king of kings and lord of lords.

17 And I saw an angel standing in the sun, who cried in a loud voice to all the birds flying in midair, “Come, gather together for the great supper of God, 18 so that you may eat the flesh of kings, generals, and mighty men, of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all people, free and slave, small and great.”

19 Then I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies gathered together to make war against the rider on the horse and his army. 20 But the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who had performed the miraculous signs on his behalf. With these signs he had deluded those who had received the mark of the beast and worshiped his image. The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur. 21 The rest of them were killed with the sword that came out of the mouth of the rider on the horse, and all the birds gorged themselves on their flesh.

Jesus establishing a kingdom of peace on earth for 1,000 years, called the MILLENNIAL reign.

Revelation 20:4-6 I saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony for Jesus and because of the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or his image and had not received his mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years. (The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.) This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy are those who have part in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years.

Revelation 20:7-15 When the thousand years are over, Satan will be released from his prison and will go out to deceive the nations in the four corners of the earth—Gog and Magog—to gather them for battle. In number they are like the sand on the seashore. They marched across the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of God’s people, the city he loves. But fire came down from heaven and devoured them.10 And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

11 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done.14 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. 15 If anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

Application: Commit to REGULAR fellowship and biblical discussion with fellow Christians so I can grow strong and stay on guard.

NEXT WEEK: How do the End Times apply to my life now and when will Jesus return?

Super Friends Part 1

July 5, 2012 in Sermon Notes, Uncategorized, Video

Superfriends Part 1 – They Are Intentional

Friendships are INTENTIONAL and they take EFFORT and ENERGY.

John 15:12-14 12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. 14 You are my friends…

You can’t WAIT for others to make a move.

Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

We need to INITIATE, We need to INVITE… we need to quit waiting for someone else to take the first step.

Romans 5:10 … our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son…

Matthew 9:9-10 As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him. 10 While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with him and his disciples.

  1. 1.   Jesus INTENTIONALLY approaching Matthew.
  2. 2.   Jesus INITIATING conversation and inviting.
  3. 3.   Jesus finding COMMON INTEREST to build on (dinner).
  4. 4.   OTHER PEOPLE having opportunity to make friends.

We need to be intentional and CREATE opportunities to establish friendships.

Luke 16:9 I tell you, use worldly wealth to gain friends for yourselves

Super-Friendships are about SHARING life TOGETHER.

If you are an INTROVERT you must make the effort to connect, you must be gracious about people running out of conversation and not knowing how to RELATE with you.

By our “super-Friendships”, not only do we experience a fuller life, but others will be drawn to CHRIST… Just like Matthews friends.

John 13:35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

Application: INVITE a person/couple to dinner to start a NEW friendship or cultivate a NEGLECTED one.
