Before I go any further in this little blog, I want to make clear to you what you already know… I am NOT A DOCTOR! HA! So, what I’m sharing is my opinion and in my opinion common sense stuff that we shouldn’t need a doctor to tell us.
I’ve been hearing for some time now about the swine flu. The media hype over a strain of flu is almost comical if I didn’t feel like there was some hidden agenda behind it all (don’t want to sound too much like a conspiracy theorist).
So, some stats that I heard the other day (check them out for yourself to verify) are that swine flu (type A flu) has killed about 1000 people in a 12month time frame, but what no one is talking about is that regular flu, if there is such a thing, (type B flu) has killed over 30,000 people in a 12 month time frame. Funny we don’t hear anything about that, a flu (or ‘flues) that has killed 30x’s more people.
Here another thing… why are older people immune to the virus; People from my parents generation and older? Because it passed through those generations in the mid 1900′s, and they survived it, that’s why!
H1N1 is not the black plague!
What about this vaccination? Aren’t we just a little bit nervous about something that they came up with so quickly, hasn’t had any time to test, so we are completely clueless about what kind of side effects this may have?
Here’s my opinion… Swine flu is just that… THE FLU. I hate the flu, but it comes every year and we treat it the same way.
I’ve never got a flu shot, not that I’m against them, I just haven’t, and in the case of the swine flu I have no intention of getting one for me or my kids.
I know what the flu does, how to try to prevent it, and how to treat it if you get it, but I don’t know about this new vaccine, so I’m siding with sticking with what I know and what has been proven.
I’m sick of all the hype about swine flu. At some point we should be asking ourselves, what the heck is going on? This just seems fishy to me.
Anyway, in case you don’t know here are some general common sense home remedies for treating or preventing flu, but you can google it and find even more. You should see your doctor to confirm what you are fighting be it the flu, common cold, or something else, especially if you already suffer with respiratory or circulation issues (the flu can compound and complicate these health problems even leading to death).
***I forgot to add this when I wrote the blog, but someone reminded me, so I’m editing and adding an obvious habit to help with prevention and treatment…. WASH YOUR HANDS! All the time, but especially when you’ve been around people, public places, or have touched around your nose or mouth. Thanks for the reminder.
***
1. Regularly take Vitamin C. To boost immune system and increase white blood cells.
2. take zinc (lozenges). Boosts immune system. Start these if you are developing symptoms.
3. REST… Your body needs it to fight off the virus.
4. Liquids… this is VITAL! drink lots and lots of water as well as other drinks like 100% fruit juices and herbal teas. Especially if they are vomiting a lot or having a lot of diarrhea. Dehydration is a serious problem with those who suffer with the flu.
5. Avoid sugars (soda pop, ice cream, other sweets), coffee, fatty and processed foods… these can worsen flu symptoms.
6. Let the fever do it’s job, if it goes above 101 start to treat it with Tylonal (acetaminophen).
7. Take colloidal silver (AKA: Ionic Silver); this kills viruses.
8. Unless you have some kind of bacterial infection Antibiotics are of NO VALUE with the flu. They do not kill viruses, so I do not let my doctor prescribe Antibiotics to me or my family for virus related colds.
There are many more home remedy tips to prevent or treat the flu. The point is… don’t freak out; don’t buy into all the hype. The Bible says, “There is nothing new under the sun” and the Swine Flu is no different. There are things out there a whole lot worse that we need to be addressing.
God has built your body to have an amazing immune system to help fight off sickness and to get better and better at it, if we will take care of ourselves, use common sense, and not start pumping ourselves full of chemicals.
Hope this helps in bringing you some peace of mind and equips you in caring for your family.
God bless.

Mike…
Swine Flu is buried under a LOT of hype… it’s pretty clear there are some political agendas behind a lot of it… even the crazy theories about it’s origins seems to be almost plausible! the only thing i would add to your list is to wash your hands before and after touching your hands to your mouth, ears, eyes, etc….
it’s always a good idea….
but good blog! very good thoughts!
